Kliphuis Mohair Rug
A collaboration between Bofred and Frances V.H Mohair Rugs and part of the Showroom Collection.
The Kliphuis Rug draws inspiration from desert landscapes—both the Middle East, where Christa resides, and the Karoo.
Its abstract pattern echoes the remnants of forgotten dwellings and the subtle traces of life once present. Earthy tones reflect the sun-scorched hues of sand and stone, capturing the solitude of these arid terrains. Kliphuis evokes a sense of a place long abandoned, where only animals remain as silent witnesses to the passage of time.
Every step of the process is hand-made by women artisans in some of the more remote areas of South Africa. Frances v.H is focused on helping to preserve traditional craftsmanship and provide sustainable incomes for women in rural communities.
Frances v.H pride prides themselves on an entirely local and sustainable supply chain and do as little as possible to the natural fibre, allowing the raw materials and hand-work of the artisans create a unique piece every-time. No one–piece will ever be the same because of this approach.
We encourage our clients to be as involved as possible in the process, giving them insight into the intricacies of every step involved.
Each mohair rug is determined by the eye and feel of the weaver and the conditions of the veld. This affects the animals and ultimately, the character of the mohair. We work with a small selection of colours, and each colour batch will vary slightly. The yarn is hand-spun and not consistently even. The mohair is raw and unprocessed and Frances v.H dye in small batches to avoid any waste or stockpile.
